The historic building of the Cyprus Electricity Authority (EAC) in Paphos, home to the first generators, has been transformed into a vibrant Cultural Complex, now serving as a central hub for the city’s artistic and intellectual life. This new Cultural Centre integrates the industrial character of the old EAC structure of the 1940s with a modern architectural expression. The facility features a large exhibition space for both temporary and permanent displays, an amphitheatre for projections, dining areas, a bookstore and a library situated in a mezzanine level. The design thoughtfully maintains the building’s historical essence while incorporating contemporary elements, offering a versatile platform for cultural activities.
The outdoor space has been redesigned to connect seamlessly with Kennedy Square and hosts permanent outdoor sculptures. The original generator, which was once housed in the existing building, is now prominently displayed in the outdoor plaza, engaging in a dialogue with the new contemporary fountain. The architectural approach is marked by simplicity and functionality, avoiding unnecessary embellishments and creating a comfortable environment for visitors. This renovation represents a sustainable development model, revitalizing the area and enhancing its cultural significance while preserving the historical character of the site.
