Located in one of the most architecturally remarkable urban cores of Cyprus, within the traditional core of the walled city of Nicosia, the proposal aims to respect the surrounding area. Although the new building facilities require large uniform spaces and a significant clear height, the design is placed thoughtfully within the study area, drawing architectural, spatial, and morphological elements from the immediate surroundings, creating a new, modern architectural language that fits seamlessly into the space.
The proposal seeks to integrate the new building program in a way that prioritizes and strengthens the central courtyard, which organizes and feeds the surrounding facilities. The proposed canopies running along the façades of the new buildings reinforce the central courtyard, offering opportunities for covered circulation, quality gathering points, and a functional and aesthetic connection between all elements within the school complex.
The new development is concealed under the veil of a new architectural element – a canopy that joins existing and proposed facilities, forming a single cohesive structure within the school.
